John A. Girard
November 9, 1943 — April 24, 2021
John A. Girard, son of the late John & Helene Girard, passed away at Albany Med on April 24th after a brief illness.
Born on November 9th 1943 while his father was fighting in WW2, John spent his youth growing up in East Glenville N.Y. and graduated from Burnt Hills Ballston lake HS in 1961. He went on to earn a degree in Library Science from Geneseo and spend many years as a librarian in the Schenectady elementary schools. After he retired he spent time as a substitute teacher for Shenendehowa schools. While working John also earned masters degrees from St Rose
(Special Education) and SUNY Albany (Administration).
John had a special fondness for being with family & loved our get togethers. He especially missed his late grandmother Helene Yates & friend Archie Cooke.
He enjoyed local football, basketball & track & was a fervent fan of Notre Dame football, the Boston Celtics and the Yankees.
John is survived by siblings Paul Girard (Ara) of Pembroke Pines, Fla, Mary Girard, Schenectady, N Y, Joe Girard (Marylou) Glenville,NY and Ann Bellicose (Joe) of Rotterdam, NY and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Barnwell in Valatie for taking care of John and and the Albany Med team for keeping him comfortable in his final days.

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 10:30am-11:30am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A memorial service will follow starting at 11:30am with burial being held at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady.
