COLONIE – John H. Smith, 72, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on January 6, 1934 in Albany and was the son of the late Raymond S. and Jane H. Keyser Smith. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960 attaining the rank of Private First Class.
John was employed by Securitas Security Services in Albany, where he was assigned to Our Lady of Hope Residence for 14 years. Securitas was previously known as Pinkerton and Burns.
John enjoyed photography, gardening, computers, writing, painting and drawing and was an avid animal lover.
John is survived by his son, Rodney L. Smith of Slingerlands; his companion, Sheila O'Sullivan of Colonie and his loving cats, Sam and Snowball. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen M. Hess Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Whiskers Animal Benevolent League P.O. Box 11190, Albany, NY 12211 in memory of John H. Smith.
