John A. Hempstead

July 21, 1952 — February 14, 2024

John Alexander Hempstead, 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side.

John was the son of the late John and Katherine Yeomans.

He was the devoted husband to Susan N. Hempstead. They have been together for over 28 years and were married in 2004.

Johns priority was taking care of his family and he took pride in raising his daughter Angelina. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, music, movies and books.

John is survived by his wife Susan Hempstead, his daughters, Heather Cole and Angelina Hempstead, his grandchildren, Zachary and Madison Cole, his brothers Harold (Janet) Hempstead and Gary Davis, his father and mother-in-law Jackson and MaryEllen Mercer, his sister-in-laws, Doreen (Kofi Essien) Bologna and Florence Mercer, his brother-in-law Gary Mercer, Jackson (Donna) Mercer Jr., Nelson (Dropadie "Babe") Mercer, his uncle Richard (Pearl) Mercer and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY on Sunday February 18, 2024 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
