Waterford, NY - John "Skeet" J. Holland, Sr., 87, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Skeet was born on May 10, 1936 in Hadley, NY to parents John and Alice Holland.
Skeet, a dedicated family man, was cherished by everyone who crossed his path. Throughout his life, he dedicated over 60 years to the Halfmoon Fire Department, where he not only held an officer position, but also served as assistant chief. His commitment to serving the community continued as a valuable member of the Saratoga County Fire Police. After retiring as a truck driver, Skeet devoted his days to visiting family and friends at the Glad Rag Saloon, Halfmoon Fire House, or going hunting up north.
Survivors include his children, Joann (Paul) Ernst, John (Kay) Holland, Scott (Betsey) Holland, Robert Holland, Christopher (Allison) Holland; grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Towne, Danny (Stephanie) Towne, Michele (Matt) Brobston, Jonathan (Caralynn) Holland, and Morgan Holland; as well as several great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends. Skeet is predeceased by his companion, Sally Rickli; his wife, Loretta Holland; brother, Sam Holland, and sister-in-law, Priscilla Holland.
Calling Hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:45 am at St. Mary's Cemetery (Waterford).
