John F. Homan, 82, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023.
Born on April 12, 1941 in Niskayuna, he was the son of the late Henry D. Homan and Lydia Anne Kuehn.
John was a graduate of St.Joseph's Academy in 1959. He served in the United States Army, from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1967, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman. After his time in the military, he was employed with Wedekind Motors from 1967-1979, and worked various jobs until he became disabled in 2007.
John was an expert at identifying U.S. cars by make, model and year on sight. He enjoyed model car kits, listening to music by Lawrence Welk and other country music artists, reading about his favorite entertainers and automotive pioneers, such as Henry Ford. You could often find John playing "Sorry", Dominoes or Bingo.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Mary Louise Schemerhorn.
He is survived by his brother, James Homan of Glenville, his sister Cecilia Whitcomb (Tim) of Rotterdam, and several cousins.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie from 10AM-11AM, with a service to immediately follow at 11AM. Interment will take place following the funeral service at St.Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
