John J. Dougherty

d. October 14, 2010

COLONIE – John J. "Jack" Dougherty, Jr. 79, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, he was the devoted son of the late John J. Dougherty, Sr. and Margaret M. Dougherty. Jack lived in Watervliet before moving to Colonie where he resided for over forty years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country honorably as a member of the 98th Artillery Battalion during the Korean War. After the Army, he worked for the former Norton Company in Watervliet for 45 years before his retirement, during which time he was also a proud member of the United Paperworkers International Union.
Jack was the loving husband of the late Mary A. Clemente Dougherty for 54 years, who passed away on October 14, 2010. During their marriage, their greatest joy was spending time with one another and their family. They were communicants of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and enjoyed going out to dinner with each other every Saturday after mass.
Jack was deeply interested in politics and history, loved cars and was also an avid NY Giants fan. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing in a softball league and bowling. But most of all, he enjoyed the company of his family, especially his children and grandchildren whom he cherished deeply.
He is the beloved father of Maryann D. (Mark) Malinoski of Latham, John J. (Lynn) Dougherty III of Latham and Lynn (Thomas) Washock of Colonie. Jack is the cherished "Pop" of Adam (Anna) Malinoski of Norwalk, CT, Aaron (Bethlyn) Malinoski of Colonie, Sean and Meghan Dougherty of Latham and Jonathan and Jacob Washock of Colonie. He is the much loved great-grandfather of Lucas John Malinoski of Colonie.
Jack's family would like to extend a warm thank you to the staff of Dr. Zackon's office in Latham, especially Tricia, for the care and compassion they gave during his illness.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie, then to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham at 10:00 AM where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of the Assumption Church Capital Campaign, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Latham NY 12110 in memory of John J. Dougherty Jr.
