ALBANY – John J. Glavin, Jr., 74, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospital.
John was born on July 7, 1930 in Albany to the late John J. and Lilian Slattery Glavin, Sr.
John Served in the US Navy during the Korean War serving on the USS Carpellotti, attaining the rank of Lt. JG.
John was an attorney in general practice with his father at Glavin and Glavin Attorney's at Law in Albany for many years before retiring in 1992. He was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, watching Jeopardy and loved history especially the World War II era.
John is survived by his wife, Justina M. (Plantz) Glavin; his stepchildren, James Whiting of Albany, Christina Crowley of Colonie, and Terri and Justin Whiting of Wildomar, CA; his brother, William F. (Cis) Glavin of Vero Beach, FL and Lake Winnipesauke, NH; his sister, Barbara (Bob) Coleman of Mobile, AL. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet Dudas Glavin, his sister, Sr. Joanne Glavin SNJM; his uncle, Rt. Rev. Monsignor Edward Glavin; and his great uncle, Rt. Rev. Monsignor John F. Glavin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Academy of Holy Names Chapel, 1061 New Scotland Road, Albany. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Calling hours will be held at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Sisters of the Holy Names or to St. Peter's Hospital in memory of John J. Glavin, Jr.
