ALBANY, NY – John J. LaManda, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2008 at Mary's Haven in Saratoga. Born in Albany, he was the beloved son of Stacia T. LaManda and the late Joseph S. LaManda. John lived in Albany for all of his life. Until his illness, he worked for Freihofer's Baking Co. in Albany. John was an outdoorsman and absolutely loved hiking and fishing. He was a connoisseur of classic rock music and could answer any trivia related to Woodstock and the 1960's era. John also had a special interest in the Native American Indian culture. In addition to his beloved mother, he is the devoted brother of Michael (Gail) LaManda of Freehold and Linda Pacquin of FL. He is the cherished uncle of Jessica and Jonah LaManda of Freehold and Dawn (Sam Schipano) LaManda of Clifton Park. He is the cousin of Johnny and Robert Van Dyke of FL. Also surviving is his special friend, Jesse Zwack as well as many fishing and hiking friends. In addition to his father, John was predeceased by his brothers, Stephen and Joseph LaManda. John's greatest wish was for "peace, love and joy for everyone." To his special niece, Dawn, John will forever be remembered as "Skydancer." The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Mary's Haven for providing the special care that John needed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 9:00 at the Historic Church of St. Mary's on Capital Hill, Albany. Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary's Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 in memory of John J. Lamanda.
