John J. Morwin

GUILDERLAND – John J. Morwin, 70, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Ellis Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Morwin. He was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard serving his country from 1965 through 1970. John started his working career at F.W. Woolworth Company before opening his own business, Morwin's Mobil in Colonie from where he retired. He was on the Board of Directors of the Gasoline Retailers Association and Past-President of the Central Avenue Merchants Association. John enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with his son, and golfing. He especially loved family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren.


John is the beloved husband of forty-six years to Barbara J. (Gulliver) Morwin. He is the devoted father of Michelle (Stephen) McDonough of Guilderland and John J. Morwin of Guilderland. He is the loving brother of Dorothy Waters, Joseph (Dorothy) Morwin, Michael (Debbie) Morwin, Virginia Brockley, Marilyn (Kevin) VanVranken and James Morwin. He is the Proud Papa of his cherished grandchildren, Katelyn and Thomas McDonough and Ayla and Chloe Morwin. John is the brother-in-law of John and Marilyn Nichols, Gail Gulliver and Mary Gulliver Sasala Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his best friend and canine companion, "Koach." Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Ellis Hospital's Neurological floor C6 for the compassion, care and attentiveness given to John. Thank You also to Dr.'s Feinstein, Gomez, McDonough, Schumacher and Bulova and therapist's Jennifer and Chris for their efforts and expertise.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Guilderland. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 27 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of John J. Morwin.
