LARGO, FL – John J. O'Brien, 91, long-time resident of Niskayuna, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, July 13, 2009. He was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, to the late John and Marion O'Brien. Jack O'Brien's was a life well lived – an example of dedication, knowledge, loyalty, wit and above all love. With an ever present sparkle in his eyes and with great humor, he touched all who came to know him. Mr. O'Brien graduated from Boston College and Boston College Law School. After a successful stint as a professional prizefighter, he began a long and distinguished career in the law. He was an attorney and vice-president of Electric Insurance Company and Electric Mutual Liability Company, both subsidiaries of General Electric. For over 30 years, he was an active and valued member of the Mohawk Golf Club. Jack was the beloved husband and true partner of the late Helen F. Trainor O'Brien. He was the proud and devoted father of Janet A. O'Brien, Halfmoon, NY, Dr. Joan O'Brien and her husband, Dr. James Wall, Greenbrae, CA and John O'Brien and his wife, Elizabeth Petty, Washington, D.C. He is also survived by siblings Marion Campanelli, Hingham, MA, Gordon O'Brien of Hull, MA, and William O'Brien, Fort Worth, TX. With much love, he cherished the role of grandfather to grandsons Sam O'Brien and John O'Brien-Wall. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Those who wish to celebrate the life of this remarkable man are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 30th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helen's Church, Niskayuna. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
