John J. Reed

March 6, 1944 — September 9, 2013

ALBANY-John J. Reed, age 69, died at home September 9, 2013 after a long illness. John worked for Williams Press for many years until its closing. He was hired by the NYS Higher Education and received a promotion to the NYS Office of Mental Health. In June 1986, John was honored with a ceremonial award luncheon for becoming OMH's employee of the year. Also during his years with OMH, John was actively involved with CSEA as an officer and loyal member spending endless hours being the guiding force in creating the NYS leave donation program. This program is widely used today to assist numerous state employees on sick leave.
John leaves behind his wife Fran of 40 years, brothers-in-law Leo, Jacob (Ruth), and Thomas Rivers, his cherished nephew Jacob R. Rivers, Jr. (aka "my pal") and his cherished niece Katie M. Rivers (aka "my little nurse").
He is also survived by his brother Arthur Reed and sisters Cindy Barnes, Marion Kleitgen, Barbara Austin, Ruth Garno, Sue Delgado, Elsie Gallagher and Elizabeth Allen.
John's favorite enjoyment was spending quality time with Jacob Jr. and Katie. He also liked bowling, NASCAR, golf, fishing, camping, wrestling and roller derby.
On behalf of John and myself, we would like to thank the Home Medical Associates, Dr. David Hornick, Nurse Practitioner Craig Ritchie and the Eddy nursing staff Crystal Carroll, Chris Chambers, Diane Dare and Stacie Noon.
A very special thank you to Beth Donnelly, RN who provided John with the utmost care far beyond her medical duties. John referred to Beth as his "Golden Girl". Also a very special thank you to his sister Cindy Barnes, LPN who helped care for John during his last years.
At John's request, he will be cremated with no calling hours or funeral service.
