Delmar- John Joseph Ryan, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 19, 2016 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. The son of the late Thomas F. and Margaret (Dineen) Ryan, John was born on January 28, 1931 in Springfield, MA. John grew up in Springfield, MA where he attended AIC College. He honorably and faithfully served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1955. Upon returning from the service, John married Patricia A. Moore in 1956. He graduated from Georgetown Law School. John was the Albany District Claims Manager for Hartford Insurance.
John enjoyed bicycling, jogging, reading and photography. He also loved to spend time with his family going to hockey games, camping and various sporting events.
John was a man of great pride and was very feisty. He was very determined right up to the end and never gave up asking for food! Although John's journey was difficult, his family was very fortunate to have a great group of aides who offered loving and compassionate care.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Patricia A. Ryan and his brothers: Thomas and Patrick Ryan. John is survived by his children: Jacqueline M. (Mark) Johnson, Kevin J. (Maura) Ryan, Michael F. (Kimberly) Ryan and Thomas G. (Antoinette) Ryan; his grandchildren: Brendan C. Johnson, Patrick K. Ryan, Sean, Lindsey, Nichole, Kate Ryan and Samantha and Jack Ryan; his sister Mary Jane (Ryan) Malone; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 6pm on Friday, September 23 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 5pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In honor of John and his battle with Alzheimer's Disease, the family requests that you wear something purple to his services.
