Center Brunswick----- It is with great sadness that the family of John C. "Jack" Hutwelker, 79, of Center Brunswick, New York, announce his passing. "Jack" passed peacefully on September 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight with several illnesses.
"Jack" will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Mary Beth and his children Lisa M. Shufelt (Joseph) of Grafton, New York, Tracy H. Lapham (Jeffrey) of Grafton, New York, John C. "Scott" Hutwelker, Jr. (Wendy) of Bennington, Vermont and Beth E. Hutwelker (Terrence Breen) of Clifton Park, New York.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to Walter and Eleanor Hutwelker, Jack was the younger brother of Walter and Donald Hutwelker, both of Florida. Raised in West Stephentown and Graduated from Averill Park High School. Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after his seventeenth birthday. He served honorably as an aircraft mechanic at the Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware.
Jack was employed for twenty-years by Troy Mattress in Menands, New York as a tractor trailer driver and most recently worked for Straight Line Industries where he truly loved his job and co-workers
Jack's greatest pleasure in life, aside from his wife Mary Beth, was spending time with his grandchildren; Marissa Deerfield, Sarah Shufelt , McKayla Rush (Zachary), Jacob Grant and Kendall Lapham. He looked forward to the annual family vacations to the Outer Banks, North Carolina and spending time with Mary Beth at their condominium in Ixtapa, Mexico. Jack was a talented carpenter who enjoyed working with friends and family on weekends. He also loved the New York Giants and Notre Dame football and the former Brooklyn Dodgers.
Predeceased by Sister-in-laws Ann and Joyce Hutwelker and Brother-in- Law John Bryant as well as his niece Kathryn Hutwelker and nephew Donald Hutwelker, Jr.
Survived by several nephews and a niece as well as his best friends Paul and Linda Gendron of Melrose, New York and his animal companions Daisy Mae and Dempsey who kept him company during his illness.
Calling hours Sunday, September 24, 2017 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road in Watervliet, New York between the hours of 2pm and 5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday September 25, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory in Troy, New York at 11 AM followed by a burial at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted Jack with his battle as well as the staff at Samaritan Hospital including the ER and ICU staff and Dr.'s Straumph and Farouk.
