John F. Kaminsky

John F. Kaminsky, a resident of Guilderland, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Sylvia Kaminsky.

Born on January 14, 1939, in Binghamton, New York, John was the son of the late John and Josephine Kaminsky.

John was a dedicated lifelong learner, graduating from Binghamton North High School, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Harper College, a Master of Social Work from Syracuse University, and a Master of Public Administration from the University at Albany. He served with distinction as a Director at the New York State Department of Social Services, retiring in 1994.

A passionate enthusiast of classic automobiles, John cherished the memories associated with each vehicle, often reminiscing, "I had one of those." His cars held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Kaminsky; his former wife, Alison Kaminsky; his sons, John "Dave" Kaminsky (Wendy) and Derek Kaminsky (Carol); his daughter, Kim (Torsten); his step-son, John (Becky); his step-daughter, Michelle (Todd); six grandchildren, Morgan, Danielle, Bryden, Cole, Abigail, and Liam; and five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Oakley, Maverick, Miles, Indie, and one on the way. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary of Binghamton, New York, and Sue (Phil) of Altamont, New York; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cherished canine companion, Rusty.

John was predeceased by his sister, Joanne, and his brothers, Jim and Joe.

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, March 15th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A family-led celebration of John's life will follow at 11:00 AM. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
