Latham – John L. House, 89, died August 4, 2016 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Clifford and Jessie House of Hornell, NY. John was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving on a Landing Craft-Infantry (LCIL-442) in the Philippine Islands area during WWII.
John was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Education degree (B.S.Ed.) from State University College, Brockport, in January 1950 and a Master of Science in Education (MSEd.) from Alfred University in 1954. Additional post graduate course work toward a Doctorate in Education (Ed. D) was completed at SUNY Albany.
John retired from the NYS Department of Education in May, 1983 as the Director of the Division for Education of Opportunity Program, a state and federally funded program named the Elementary Secondary Education Act, Title I and State Urban Education with prior service as an assistant in school health education. He previously held teaching and coaching positions in Hornell and Spencerport, NY school districts. For several summer sessions, he held graduate school teaching positions in school health education at SUNY, Brockport and Plattsburgh, as well as Ithaca College. John is a member at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, Guilderland, NY.
John is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie"; his children, Kevin of Canandaigua, NY, Eric (Noreen) of Colonie, and Mark (June) of Saratoga, and also his brother, Richard, of Titusville, Florida. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, John, Joseph, Josh, Jakeb, Jessie, and Sam.
John was predeceased by his older brothers, Clifford, of Honolulu, and Robert, of Joplin, Missouri.

Burial will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery privately at the convenience of the family.
