John L. Hurst, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2011. John was born in Buffalo to the late Larkin and Pearl (Bardey) Hurst. John proudly served as a pilot in the United Sates Army Air Corp. He worked as a helicopter mechanic with the New York State Police until retirement. He enjoyed flying, fishing, listening to Frank Sinatra and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his loving wife of over 57 years, Arlene (Underhill) Hurst; he is the cherished father of, Kim Brown, Jack (Kathy) Hurst, Julie (John) VanHeusen and Jennifer (Jeremy) Dow. He is the beloved grandfather of, Eric, Christopher, Justin, Jeremy, Joshua, Matthew, Katelyn, Amy, Jake, Jesse, Haley and Sarah. He is the brother of, Gail (Doug) Doonan. John is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery.
