John James Lyons

April 12, 1956 — December 25, 2022

John James Lyons passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2022 at the age of 66, with his loving wife Charlene by his side. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but we are comforted in knowing he is home with the Lord.

John (Jack) was born to the late John J. Lyons and Marjorie A. Patnode on April 12, 1956 in Schenectady, NY. He is survived by his wife Charlene Bianca Quick Lyons of 45 years, his three children, April Lynne Lyons Boehnlein, John Charles Joseph Lyons and Nichole Michelle Lyons (Dennis Marrero), and his eight grandchildren, Caleb Alexander Boehnlein, Olivia Grace Boehnlein, Julianna Elise Marrero, Jailynne Eve Marrero, Grace Anne Lyons, Dawson Elizabeth Lyons, Dionis Josiah Marrero and Denzel James Marrero. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie A. Patnode (Robert), sister, Donna L. DeNovio, brother, Eugene F. Lyons (Milissa), two sister-in-laws, Joy Marshall (William) and Monica Halfacre (the late William), two brother-in-laws, Charles M. Quick Jr. and Newton C. Quick III (the late Darlene), several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his father, John J. Lyons, his mother and father-in-law, Mary J. and Charles M. Quick, and his sister-in-law Brenda R. Tsakanikas.

Jack graduated from Linton High School and then enlisted into the United States Army. The service taught him self-discipline that he carried on throughout his life. He was a pressman for Argus-Greenwood Litho Co. in the late 70's to early 80's. He was a journeyman for the Painters' Union and a shop steward representative. In 1984 he began working for the City of Schenectady and retired after 32 years. He was a 'Jack of all trades'. Throughout his lifetime he worked on several projects, from building decks and sheds to total home renovations. His grandchildren will tell you that "Jackpa knows anything and everything". He was the kind of person that would lend a hand at a moment's notice and give you the shirt off his back. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and everything to do with the great outdoors. He loved riding his Harley and playing Oculus virtual games with his 'brother from another mother' John (Jack) Purcell. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. One of his favorite meals was steak and lobster. He enjoyed dining out as well as cooking. He had a passion to fly planes and felt determined to get his pilot's license and he also dreamed of building a log cabin in his retirement for him and his wife. Although Jack was not able to accomplish all that he desired in his lifetime he still lived his life to the fullest. He was ambitious, never procrastinating and always took care of what needed to be done. He was 'the ROCK' of our family, the one we all leaned on and the advisor of the family whenever we needed. Jack was a devoted husband, father, and Grandpa (Jackpa). He had the biggest smile that warmed your heart.
