Albany – John M. DeLessio, 78, passed away Wednesday October 29, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital.
John was born in Troy the son of the late Iron Michael and Anna (Fitzgerald) DeLessio and was a lifelong capital district resident. He was a veteran of the U S Army having served 1948-1952. John worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel for over 30 years as a millwright and then had a second career with the U S Post Office where he worked for over 20 years. John was very active in youth athletics throughout his life. He coached YMCA basketball, Colinie Babe Ruth and West End Little League. John was also an avid golfer whose favorite course was Colonie.
He is survived by his wife Rose DeLessio, children; Michael DeLessio, John (Nancy) DeLessio Jr., Timothy (fiancé Susan Rambis) DeLessio, Mary Rossi and Michelle Brand, grandchildren; Jill, Steven, James (Jackie), Anthony, David, Benjamin, Samantha, Angela (Darren), Amanda, Marvin and Richard, great-grandchildren; Matthew and Makenna and his feline companion Lightning. John was predeceased by his son Steven DeLessio and sister Marie Keyser.

Funeral services will be Monday 10:30am from New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.) then to St. Paul the Apostle Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am. Calling hours are 2:00 to 5:00pm Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Memory's Garden. Memorial Contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society.
