John H. Macbeth

August 8, 1932 — June 30, 2023

John "Jack" Macbeth, 90, of Niskayuna, NY passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, with his family lovingly by his side.

Born on August 8, 1932 to Margaret Hurley Macbeth and J. Francis Macbeth, Jack lived his rambunctious young life in Schenectady, NY with his sister Faith. He settled down in Colonie, NY, where he and his wife of 52 years, Lorraine Ross Macbeth, who passed away in 2007, raised their family.

Jack had a powerful memory with a talent for remembering names, people, and places. Always quick witted, he had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was full to the brim with knowledge gained through his life experiences: graduating from Nott Terrace High School (1950), serving in the United States Army as Military Police stationed in the Korean Peninsula (1950-1952), and working for the New York Telephone and Telegraph Company for 30 years, from which he retired in 1988.

Family trips to "Camp" on Limekiln Lake, in Inlet, NY, where Jack spent nearly 75 years, created a generational love for the Adirondacks. Forever proud of his family, Jack's legacy is continued by his four children, John (Amy) of Schenectady, NY, Joyce (Dan) Stein of Sarasota, FL, Joseph (Monica) of North Bennington, VT, Mark (Gosia) of Indianapolis, IN, and his niece and nephews. Jack was lovingly referred to as "Pop" by his 10 grandchildren, Graham, Alexander, Julian, Abigail, Taylor, Erin, Maxene, Alexa, Madison, and Juliet, as well as six great-grandchildren. Jack's family will always remember him as the "Head Honcho."

Jack was a passionate sports fan, rooting for the New York Mets, and Tampa Bay Lightening, but most enthusiastically for his children/grandchildren's events, especially backyard whiffle ball games. He loved hunting, hiking, skiing, reading, and working on projects around the camp. He maintained a strong Catholic faith and was a longtime congregant at St. Clare's Church in Colonie, NY and St. Anthony's Church in Inlet, NY.

Snow-birding to Bradenton and Estero, FL, he enjoyed many years with his second wife and longtime friend Shirley Collier. For the past 8 years, Jack lived at The Glen Eddy Retirement Community where he made many meaningful friendships with residents and staff. He will be missed dearly.

Jack's family and friends will celebrate his life with a private memorial service.
