EAST BERNE-John L. "Mickey" Murdick, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Feb. 22, 2017.
John was born to the late John L. Murdick, Sr. and Elizabeth (Fischer) Murdick on June 27, 1929 in Newark, NJ.
John spent his childhood in the Albany area and attended Albany Schools. He worked at the Tobin Packing Company and enjoyed bartending at the Garden Grill. In the early 50's John found his calling with the Albany County Police Department where he served the community as a Patrolman for 36 years.
Mickey was a member of the Guilderland Elks Club. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Together with his family and friends he had many fun times at Snyders Lake, Burden Lake and especially enjoyed his 4th of July parties on Kaine Drive. He cherished his hunting trips with his sons and was always keeping them busy working on projects (especially cars).
John was a kindhearted giving man who was always there to lend a helping hand without expectation of anything in return. He also loved playing the piano wherever there was one!
He will be deeply missed, but his presence will be with all those who had the privilege to know and love him, forever.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, the sweetheart and love of his life, Shirley; their sons, William (Susan), Daniel (Beatrice), Robert (Nancy), Timothy (Kimberly), Joseph; daughter, Cheryl Ann (Richie) Haggerty; his brothers, Patrick (Mary), Michael (Peggy); several grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews, cousins and his buddy, Max.
He is predeceased by his loving son, John L. Murdick III and his dear grandson Sean Michael Murdick; his sisters, Linda Koreman, Ruth (Frank) Lasch, Irene (Joe) Gruber; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Charles) Unser, Murial (George) Brooks and dear friends, Bud and Jackie Turner.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gregg Gerety and Johnathan DeSantis for the care they have provided to John over the last several years as well as the ICU staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their care and support.
