LATHAM - John A. O'Connor "Jack", 72, passed away from a rare disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy on Friday, February 17, 2017, with his loving wife, Serena, at his side.
Jack was born on April 7, 1944 in Boston and was the son of the late Helen L. O'Connor (Goncars) and John J. O'Connor. He was raised in Medford, MA where he graduated from Medford High School in 1962. He then joined the US Navy on July 25,1962 and served during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged on August 25, 1966 where he was transferred to the Naval Reserve. Jack received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Jack was the owner and general manager from 1975 to 2006 of Party Needs in Waltham, MA, the main store being the headquarters, an 18,000 square foot store with 30+ employees and two smaller satellite stores. Simultaneously, he was the owner and general manager from 1995 to 2010 of Newburyport Card & Gift in MA, an 12,000 square foot store with 10+ employees.
Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Serena O'Connor (Sukljian); his siblings, Terrance, Fiona and Mary and his nephews Jason and Michael.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by burial with Military Honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
