Troy- John J. O'Donnell, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Edward O'Donnell and Helen O'Donnell. John was the devoted husband to Elizabeth (Betty) Ann O'Donnell. They were married 43 years.
After graduating from High School, John served in the United States Army as a communications specialist in the famed 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning). He was awarded an honorable discharge at the end of his active service in 1963. John went on to work as a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal until his retirement in 1994.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and being in caring service to others. His hobbies were being a licensed HAM radio operator and the restoration & repair of antique radio equipment.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sons, Mark (Donna), John (Nora), Jason (Stacey), and David (Michelle), as well as his ten grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the St. Peter's hospice nurses that provided kind and compassionate care to John and his family.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Tuesday September 6, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12pm. Burial will follow the service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
