ALBANY – John P. Goitz, 89, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 6, 2010. He was an Albany resident for 78 years.
John was born on March 3, 1921 in Pawtucket, RI and was the son of the late John and Josephine (Marculewicz) Goitz. He served in the US Navy during WWII where he was a baker and cook. He worked as a grain inspector for the Port of Albany for over 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed feeding the birds, working in the yard, and solving cryptograms, and loved Saratoga. He was a devout Catholic and attended All Saints Catholic Church.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Veronica T. (Wagner) Goitz; his son, Jon (Judy) Goitz; his daughters, Vicky (Dewey) Fleming and Donna (James) Bullinger; three grandchildren, Alfie Yaggle, Stacey Bullinger and Jonathan Goitz. He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank, Charlie and Joe and his sister, Anne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, Western Ave. at Homestead St. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
