SCHENECTADY – John P. Grattan, 72, of Schenectady, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
John was born on August 31, 1936 in Albany and was the son of the late Cornelius and Jennie (O'Dell) Grattan. He served in the US Marine Corps attaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked for Marcella's Appliance in Schenectady.
John is survived by his wife, Joan F. (Welfinger) Grattan; his children, John Grattan of Schenectady, Kimberly (Grattan) Zeltins of Niskayuna, William Grattan of Schenectady; his friend and companion, Judy Creasy of Schenectady; his brothers, Frank and Joseph Grattan; his sister, Ann "Dolly" DiCarlo; his grandchildren, John Paul Grattan, Mariah Zeltins, Jesse Zeltins and Heather Grattan and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
