Troy- John W. Pedersen, 86, of North Greenbush, died Thursday morning, January 20, 2022 at Samaritan Hospital after a very brief illness with his loving family by his side. John was born at the Norwegian Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of the late Peder and Hanna Pedersen. He was a 1953 graduate of Bayside High School in Queens, NY and then graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1958. John worked as an engineer for NY Telephone/NYNEX until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Herbert Pedersen, sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred Pedersen and Gerd (George) Schulz, and his nephew, George Schulz, Jr. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janis T. Pedersen, his cherished daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Michael Garcia of Castleton, NY, and grandchildren Mackenzie, Montana, and Michael Garcia. He is also survived by nieces Janet Brown, Judy (Michael) LePage, Jane (Rick) Wold, and grandnieces Erica (Neil) Wold Perkins and Karen (Reese) Wold. He is also remembered by many long-time friends and neighbors.
John was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Troy, NY. He was devoted to his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mackenzie adored her time with Grandpa, enjoying sleepovers with poached egg breakfasts, baking chocolate croissants, and sharing their love of food (sardines). Michael loved his time with Grandpa, especially building with blocks and completing many Lego projects. Most recently, Grandpa was teaching Mackenzie to drive and was looking forward to bringing her to take her driver's test in a few weeks. He was known as "Grandpa" to many; he particularly enjoyed his mornings at the bus stop with Mackenzie, Cora, and Kaitlyn.
John was a private person, never wanting to be the center of attention. At his request, there will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
