John R. Pratico

Schenectady - John R. Pratico, 66, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Niskayuna, John was the son of the late Paschal and Mary (Longo) Pratico. He graduated from Linton High School in 1977. He earned multiple college degrees from Hudson Valley Community College, A.A., and the State University of New York at Binghamton, B.A. and M.A. While working on his masters degree at SUNY Binghamton, he was a teaching assistant.

John retired from the State of New York. His last position with the state was as a senior surrogate's court clerk with the State of New York Unified Court System in New York City. John loved living in New York City and enjoyed experiencing the many cultural and entertainment venues New York City offered. He was an avid reader, especially on the topics of history, politics, sports, entertainment, and art.

John was very close to his family. He never missed an opportunity to get together with them on holidays, birthdays, and special celebrations.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers Philip (Theresa) Pratico, James (Leslie) Pratico, and brother-in-law Raymond (Mary) Peters. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and a special cousin, John Longo of Philadelphia, whom he spent many enjoyable times with when they both visited Schenectady during the summers.

He is survived by his sisters Mary Peters, Joann (Bruce) Crounse, Sara (Joseph) Compoli, and his brother Paul (Elizabeth) Pratico. He is also survived by his uncle Philip (Eleanor) Pratico and aunt Mary (Thomas, Sr.) Pratico, many nieces, nephews, and the Pratico and Longo cousins.

The family will be having a private memorial service at a later date at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY, 12205.
