John R. Henry

d. August 17, 2009

CLIFTON PARK – John R. Henry, 100, formerly of Wantagh, NY and Coburg Village in Rexford, NY died peacefully on August 17, 2009. He was the devoted husband of his "dancing partner for life" Marie Henry who passed away in 1989.

John Is survived by his two children, Gail (John) Berley and John C. Henry; and his three granddaughters, Alexandra, Marisa and Erin.

John Henry was an amazing man. Blessed with a strong will and positive outlook, he saw opportunities in all that life had to offer. He survived the Great Depression, served in World War II (South West Pacific Theater), was a faithful member of the Masonic fraternity for 65 years and a member of the Wantagh Senior Center where he spent many enjoyable hours dancing and playing pool. He was an accomplished artist, ice skater (later took up rollerblading at age 87) sailboat racer in the Great South Bay of Long Island with memorable races to Block Island and he especially enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean. He was a true gentleman and knew just what to say to ladies young and old. He lived his life in moderation and believed in exercising the body and mind everyday.

The family wishes to thank Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare Facility for the wonderful care that they provided to John in his final days.
