COLONIE - John "Jack" Rees Casey, Sr., 81, died at Albany Stratton VA Medical Center Hospice Unit on Tuesday, August 21, 2012.
John was born on October 26, 1930 in Watervliet to the late Morton P. and Alice Rees Casey, Sr. John attended schools in the Averill Park area. John served in United States Army during the Korean War from May 18, 1951 to May 12, 1953 as a radio repair technician, field maintenance, and company barber, attaining the rank of sergeant. On June 4, 1974, he married the late Mary Merrill Casey.
He lived in Troy, and worked at Troy Light for 51 years until retiring in 2005.
John will be especially remembered for his love and dedication to his family and friends.
Survivors include his siblings Morton P. Casey of, Castleton; Frank R. Casey wife Joan of Brunswick; Phillip "Merrill" Casey of Coral Springs, FL; and Arline Casey Ernst of Averill Park. Also his children, John Rees Casey, Jr. wife, Kathy of Watervliet; Gloria Maceyko, husband Ron of Bellville IL; Mary Alice Coleman, husband William of Rocky Mount, NC; James R. Casey, wife Nadine of Catskill; Jeffrey VanVranken wife Margaret of Waterford; Jay VanVranken, wife Sandy of Scotia; Kilt Merkley husband Keith of Cohoes; Diane Joslin husband Steve of Schaghticoke; Sandy BenSalah husband Said of Rensselaer; David Merrill wife Joan of Lexington, NC; Tammy Goodspeed husband Tim of Louisville, KY; and Taralynn Merrill-Bouziri of East Greenbush. John is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who all loved him and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcome at Grecian Gardens, Rt. 9, Halfmoon.
