John Paul Scala, Sr., 70, passed away after a relentless battle with leukemia on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at his residence with his loving family by his side.


John was the son of the late Angeline DeAngelus, Ralph V. Scala, Sr. and Shirley J. Scala.

John is survived by his children John Paul Scala, III. and Gina Michelle Scala.

His siblings, Doreen Jamba, Shirley J. (Michael) Simeck, Ralph V. Scala, Jr. (Craig Hazenfield) and Susan J. (William) Hiza.


Also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.


John's family would like to thank John Paul Scala, III's mother Virginia Lattanzio for all the love and support over the last several months.


John Paul was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

John Paul was a retired accountant with the New York State Dept. of Social Services. Following retirement, John Paul was a school bus driver for the Niskayuna Central School District. The elementary children affectionately knew him as "Mr. John".


He loved sharing his life with his family the many friends he made through his work and his passions: tennis, golf, Harleys, and the Saratoga racetrack.


Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205 on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 4 pm to 7 pm.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hematologic (Blood) Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215
