ALBANY- John P. Swinegar, 85, of Albany, passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2006 after a long illness. He was born in Bayonne, NJ and was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Svajcigar.
John was a distinguished veteran of WWII He served in the US Navy and the US Coast Guard for twenty years. He had served on the USS Langley and the USS Suisun in the Pacific Theatre. John was assigned to scientific expeditions at the North and South Pole. A Purple Heart recipient, he was a true patriot and recognized with numerous citations and awards.
He has been an Albany area resident for over forty years. John was a postal worker at the Albany Post Office for 25 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is the beloved husband of fifty eight years to Mary Frances Miller Swinegar. He is the devoted father of John P. Swinegar (Kathleen), Melanie A. Sherlock, Suisun Lynn Swinegar and Mark D. Swinegar. He is the cherished grandfather of Megan M. Swinegar, Sean R. Swinger and Sara R. Sherlock.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11 o'clock at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Gerald B.H Solomon National Veterans Cemetery in Schuylerville.
