John T. Simmons

GUILDERLAND – John T. Simmons, 89, passed away on Tuesday June 26, 2012 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center after a brief illness. He was born in Troy and was the son of the late Edward R. and Catherine Rodgers Simmons.
John served in the US Navy during WWII. He was an electrical engineer with the General Electric Company in Johnson City, NY for many years, retiring in 1985. John was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 32662 and a Life Member of the American Legion Post 1643 and VFW Post 478 all in Binghamton.
He is the beloved husband of 65 years to Lillian C. Dankhoff Simmons. John is the devoted father of Karen (George) Mitchell, Thomas (Deborah) Simmons and Edward (Lorrie) Simmons. He is the brother of the late Edward Simmons, Bernyce Johnson and his twin, Mary Elayne Rainone. He is the cherished grandfather of Jilayne (Carmine) Cimetti, Lea (Anthony) Casale, Lana (James) Scheckton, Matthew Simmons and Nicholas Simmons, Matthew (Ariane) Spidel and Capt. Mitchell (Jennifer) Spidel. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 10:00 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Ave., Guilderland. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
