John T. Thorpe, Jr., passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024.
He was born on March 9, 1932, in Troy, NY to the late John T. Thorpe, Sr. and Jeannette Laliberte Thorpe.
John was a kind, friendly, and generous man who was loved by all. He had a great sense of pride and a wonderful sense of humor. He would do anything for anyone and was known for his unwavering dedication to his family.
John attended Troy High School, graduating in 1950. After high school, he attended Russell Sage College receiving a degree in Business. John then married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Fera, and enjoyed a long and happy marriage of over 50 years. Shortly after, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in France, as an Ammunition Supply Specialist with the 450th Ordinance Company from 1952 to 1954.
John is survived by his brother, Robert Thorpe of Troy, NY, his son, John T. Thorpe III (Karen) of Clifton Park, NY; his daughter Mary Landry (Pete) of Florida; his son, Robert F. Thorpe (Theresa) of Ballston Lake, NY; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Thorpe and his wife Catherine Fera Thorpe.
After his military service, John began his career as an office manager and buyer for Trojan Hardware in Troy, NY. He dedicated 42 years to the company before retiring in 1992.
In his free time, John was a longtime season ticket holder for RPI college hockey. He was also a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and had a deep love for Boston Bruins hockey and Buffalo Sabres hockey.
Viewing hours will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Rd, Watervliet, NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tibbits Ave, Troy, NY 12180-7015 with Military Honors and a Graveside Prayer Service.
