Loudonville – John R. Unser, 67, passed away Thursday March 3, 2011 at Guilderland Center Nursing Home.
John was born in Albany the son of the late John and Ruth (Hatlee) Unser and was a lifelong area resident, being raised on the family farm, where he continued to help his father into adulthood. He worked for J H Maloy Construction for many years and was a member of the Army National Guard. John was an avid hunter and fisherman who was a member of the West Albany Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, most recently bowling with Sunset Lanes Sr. League and having bowled a perfect game in 2003. John was a wonderful storyteller who loved to cook and eat.
He is survived by his beloved wife Penny (Howlan) Unser, sister Kathleen (William) Haas, sister-in-law Kelly Morrone, brother-in-law John (Linda) Howlan, mother-in-law Dorothy Howlan, nieces Sherry (Brian) Russell, Melinda and Kate Howlan, nephew William M. Haas, great niece and nephew Emma and Jack Ziegler. He is also survived by three aunts and many cousins.
John's family would like to thank the staff of the Guilderland Center Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to John.
The funeral service will be Monday 10:00am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be 2:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Guilderland Center Nursing Home 428 Rte. 146, Guilderland Center, NY 12085.
