Glenmont - John H. "Lollypop Grandpa" Van Hattum, 89, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2017, with his loving family by his side. John was born on January 23, 1928, son of the late John and Jenny (Boel) Van Hattum in Albany, NY. John was the beloved husband of Trudy (Cullen). They were married for 70 years.
John was a proud member of Teamsters Local 294 and retired in 1990 from Callanan Industries after 40 years of service. After retirement he volunteered at the American Red Cross and delivered blood for 17 years. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany. John and Trudy loved to travel and spend time with their family.
John is survived by his sons, David J. (Danelle Robilotto) Van Hattum of Albany, NY and Steven M. (Carol Roden) Van Hattum of The Villages Florida; his grandchildren, Amy M. (Thomas) Rodgers, Kelly M. Parker, Tracy M. Van Hattum (Christopher Motta); his great grandchildren, Mya and Eli Rodgers, Gabriella and Gavin Parker, Christopher C.J. Motta, Shonda Rodgers and Thomas Rodgers, Jr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his sisters, Anna (Charles) McDermott, Cynthia (Norman) Wark and brothers, Lawrence (Larry) (Evelyn) Van Hatten and Richard (Helen) Van Hattum and sister-in-law, Ruth Cullen.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
