SCOTIA – John W. Biittig, 96, passed away on Christmas Day. Born in Watervliet and raised in Averill Park, he was the son of the late Walter and Katherine (Berrer) Biittig.
John served in the United States Army during WWII in the 94th Infantry. He worked for General Electric and retired after 34 years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing everyone's TV's and family camping trips. John was a gentle, quiet, kind and loving man.
Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his eight brothers, Fred, Richard, Tony, Walter, Oswald, Joseph, Edward and Thomas Biittig, and great-grandson Agostino.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Frances Biittig; children Sharon Booth of Colonie, Jill Arnow of Glenville and Jack Biittig of Glenville; sister Katherine Downs; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
