ALBANY- John W. Heim, Sr., 86, of Albany, passed away on Monday March 24, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital after along illness. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late William and Rose Heim.
John was a US Army veteran having served in WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a driver and dispatcher for Albany Diamond Taxi and Laidlaw Transportation. More recently, he was a chauffeur and attendant at Maiden Lane Parking. John was an avid fisherman and a railroad enthusiast. He was a talented writer and submitted many scribes to Readers Digest. He enjoyed poetry and crossword puzzles. John was recognized in 2006 by the New York State Legislature for Outstanding Contributions by a Senior Citizen.
He is survived by his four sons, John Heim Jr. of Climax, NY., Michael Heim of Niverville, Thomas P. Heim of Tucson, AZ and Richard A. Heim of Schodack. He is the grandfather of Lee Heim and great grandfather of Victoria Elizabeth Heim. John was the longtime companion of the late Bessie Getz and her family.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 9:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
