John West Laird

SCHENECTADY_John West Laird, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016.
Born in Herkimer, NY, he was the son of (the late) Arthur and Olive Laird. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lola, brother, David and sister, Janet.
John served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning 9 Battle Stars for his involvement in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, John moved to the Schenectady area and worked for General Electric as a toolmaker for 40 years.
John was a member of many organizations including the Cyprus, Ziyara, and Oriental Shrine bands. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite of Utica, NY, member of the Ft. Dayton Steamer Co., Member of the VFW posts in Schenectady and Herkimer, member of the Sampson WWII Vets, and member in the GE Quarter Century Club.
John is survived by his daughters Linda Laird of Rotterdam, NY and Carole (David) Doherty of Ballston Lake, NY, Grandchildren Joseph (Sarah) Battiste and Nicole (Robert) Saniti, 4 Great Granddaughters, Isabella, Olivia, Angelina and Reese and nieces and nephews.
John's family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 12:00-1:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home. A service will be held on at 1:00pm on April 6, 2016 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
