Westmere- Johnnie Al Palcic, 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 15, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born in the Panama Republic on April 12, 1955 to Candida and the late Sgt. John Palcic.
Johnnie graduated from Guilderland High School in 1973 and went on to work as a drywall taper for Davis Acoustical and also BBL Construction; travelling to many locations including The Mall of America in Detroit. Johnnie was an accomplished organ player with various local bands including "E", Mr. Kite, Shapes, and Bleach, winning the battle of the bands at the Cobleskill fair in 1971 with the band Pure Spirit for their rendition of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again". He was a very good ice hockey player as an early teen, a Boy Scout, played baseball in Guilderland Little League and Babe Ruth. Johnnie loved waterskiing and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and Jets.
Johnnie was very loved by everyone he met.
In addition to his father, Johnnie is predeceased by his grandfather, Ivan Palcic; his aunts, Vern, Emma, and Ann; and uncles, Pete and Lou.
Johnnie is survived by his mother, Candida (Candy) Palcic; his siblings, Larry and Peggy Palcic; his godfather, Edward Mazutis and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by the love of his life, Marie, and very special friends Larry and Liz McCarthy and family, the Ashline family, the Gregory family, and the Mallgraf family as well as many other good friends and family members both here and in Panama.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY 12203. Internment will follow at Memory Gardens.
Following services at Memory Gardens, Johnnie's family would like to extend an invitation to join them at the Westmere Fire Department, 1741 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203. All are welcome.
