Elder Johnny Ezekiel Windley, Sr. born on September 25, 1949 to Ever Mae Parker and James "Buddy" Scott in Conway, SC. He went to his final resting place in the arms of his Heavenly Father and earned his heavenly wings on January 21, 2022 at the age of 72.
Elder Johnny Windley was educated in the South Carolina educational system as a youth, he relocated to New York to State University of New York (SUNY) in Potsdam, New York where he played football.
Elder Johnny Windley served in the United States of America branch of the Army in 1970 through 1972. While enlisted in the Army he worked as a personnel chauffer for military leadership but his training was for a Clerk Typist. Upon leaving the military he held many positions such as radiologist technician, dietician and disabled veteran driver. He retired after 20 years from working at the Stratton VA Medical Center in 2011 due to his illness.
Elder Johnny Windley was an advanced outdoor sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He also enjoyed entertaining others with great conversations, sharing his love of southern cuisine, singing old spiritual hymns, teaching bible studies and leading prayer meetings.
Elder Johnny Windley was a very humble man and anyone who encountered him, immediately was drawn into his radiant personality. He encompassed the joy of the Lord wherever he went with strangers and friends alike. Easily drawn into his infectious laughter, friendly countenance and the love of God he was always eager to show towards others.
Elder Johnny Windley accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. His entire life's devotion was winning souls for Christ. He lived his life to the fullest through the principle of "only what you do for Christ will last." Although he began his mission of ministry in 1974, his most honorable and rewarding assignment was as a benevolent minister of the gospel. He spent days, hours, weeks, months and years catering to the needs of the sick and shut-in.
Elder Johnny Windley would spend unlimited time visiting the sick and shut in within nursing homes, hospice units, hospitals and his senior living community. Reading scriptures, praying with patients, laughing with them and making each individual feel at ease during their health woes. discomforts and constraints until their final breath. This was his God given assignment that he took seriously with great pride and joy.
Elder Johnny Windley was well loved and cherished by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all of us. Johnny is predeceased by both of his parents, Ever Mae Windley Parker and James "Buddy Scott, his wife Dorothy Windley and his brother Lloyd Parker.
Elder Johnny E. Windley, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory six children (2) from his first wife Rose Smith (predeceased) John Ezekiel Windley, Jr. (Arleen Windley) and Illona Gale Windley both of Massuchusetts. Four (4) from his second wife Darlene Covington; Tamara N. Covington-Seck (M. Hady Seck), Cory M. Windley, Melissa E. Windley, and Dominic A. Windley all of Maryland.
He also leaves to cherish his memory the children of his third wife, Dorothy; Linay Hilt, Latiya Jeffries, Lakeesha Hilt, Haywood and Alton Hilt. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Reverend Agnes Harris of Georgia, Millie Holmes (Kenneth), Pauline Parker, Thomasine Doyle all of Albany, New York. He also leaves his grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and his church family Redemption Church of Christ.
Calling hours will be held at Redemption Church of Christ, on Tuesday February 1, 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow from 11 am to 1 pm at the church. Interment will follow the service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY at 2:30 pm.
