East Greenbush- José Mauro, 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. José was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Growing up he loved playing soccer and gymnastics, studied accounting at the U. of Buenos Aires, and worked as an editorial assistant. He emigrated to the US at 23 fulfilling his father's lifelong dream to come to America. He taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray School of Dance in Jamestown then Albany, NY, eventually becoming a citizen and franchisee from 1969 to 1987. Through his direction the studio won multiple Studio of the Year and Best Studio awards. After retiring he contracted with his beloved friend, the late John Meliski of Home Beautifiers until 2006. He was an avid gardener and gifted at creating beauty in his home and garden.
José is predeceased by his brother Esteban Mauro.
José is survived by beloved wife of 45 years, Edie Mauro. He is also survived by his son, Marcus Mauro; a sister, Beatrice Elias; a brother, Louis Mauro; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and adoring friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am at the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, Rensselaer. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
