COLONIE – Joseph A. Jenkins Jr., 76, died suddenly on Friday, August 29, 2008 after an automobile accident.
Joseph was born on December 16, 1931 in Charleston, SC and was the son of the late Joseph A. and Essie C. (Washington) Jenkins Sr.
Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was an usher at The Cathedral of All Saints in Albany; member of Prince Hall Masonic Family and served as Past Master of Capitol City Lodge No. 28, Past High Priest of Zerubbabel Chapter #8, HRAM, Past Potentate of Al Tabari Temple #121 A.E.S.O.N.M.S. In 1988 he was elevated to 33 degree and last degree AASR. He also served as treasurer for the Giffen Memorial PTA
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Julia L. (Williams) Jenkins; his children, Karen Page Quaye, Drena Smith, Byron (Laurie) Jenkins, Deborah Jenkins, Kevin (Laurie) Jenkins, and Kenneth Jenkins; stepson Louis (Juanita) Dowdell and stepdaughter Regina Dowdell. Also survived by his four brothers, four sisters and a host of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Tucker) Jenkins; his daughter, Darlene Jenkins and his brother, Edgar Jenkins.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 So. Swan Street, Albany where a service will be at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Schenectady.
