COLONIE – Joseph T. Barbagallo, 73, of Colonie, passed away on Thursday July 1, 2010 at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Joseph and Jane Barbagallo. Joe (Mr. B) was proudly appointed as an Albany Firefighter on March 7, 1960. He was one of the first EMT's on Engine One's Rescue Squad in Albany and retired in 1984. Joe was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed playing in many tournaments at the Stadium Golf Course. He is now reunited with his many friends at the 19th hole at the Stadium. Joe was named Ambassador of the Albany Metro Mallers Semi-Pro Football team in 2003. He was also previous defensive coordinator of the Capitaland Thunder ( previous Mallers). Joe enjoyed many years of involvement with the Mallers and continued to attend home games with his friends from the fire Department. He was a proud charter member of the APPFA and a lifetime member of the Albany Elks #49.
Joe was loved by many and will be deeply missed. His cherished family would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center for all of their unwavering care and support and to the Hospice Inn at St. Peters for their gentle loving care of Mr B. and his family in his final hours.
Joe is the beloved husband of 52 years to Flora Barbagallo. He is the wonderful father of Tamera Kent, Sharon Barbagallo, Suzanne (Scott) Kent, Jennifer Barbagallo and Joseph P. Barbagallo. He is the proud Poppy of 13 and great grandfather of 12. Joe was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph D. Barbagallo. He is the brother in law of Patricia and Patrick Murphy, Linda and Daniel Kozlowski, Richard and Colleen Sweet and Perley Sweet. He has always thought of his brother in law, Patrick Murphy as a brother and held a special place in his heart for him. Joe's cousin Paul (Spilkie) Barbagallo was very close and a treasured lifelong friend. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd.
