COLONIE- Joseph Bastian, 77, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday May 15, 2007 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late John and Alice Gardinier Bastian. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Joe started his career at the State Farm Animal Lab in Albany. He also worked at the West Seneca Lab in Buffalo and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany. Joe was an avid gardener and stamp collector. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member and treasurer for several area leagues.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean Sponable Bastian. Joe is the devoted father of Mark (Maureen) Bastian of Colonie, Carol (Michael) Kowal of Averill Park, Eric (Victoria) Bastian of Selkirk and Karl (Deb) Bastian of Steamboat Springs, CO. He is the cherished grandfather of Anna, Aimee, Elizabeth, Dylan, Graham, Sierra and Blake Bastian; Andrew and Peter Kowal. Joe is the brother of Alice Van Kamoen, Eloise Hoffman, Howard Bastian and the late Elizabeth Nugent, Helen Caron, Henry and John Bastian. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their care and attention while Joe was a resident. A special tank you to Phoebe David for her continued assistance throughout his illness.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie ( Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
