Joseph J. Costello
August 30, 1953 — February 20, 2023
Joseph J. Costello, 69 of Rotterdam passed away on February 20th, 2023 at home after a long struggle with heart and kidney disease.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Joseph A. & Doris I. (Pike) Costello, and his brother James Costello.
Joe grew up in the Schalmont Central School District and enlisted in the navy after graduation, of which he was proud to have served. Upon returning home he began a long career as an electrician, spending time as a member of IBEW Local #236 (formerly #166) before moving on to work at Suny Albany until his retirement in 2016. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks #2157 for a time but was most proud of his 20+ years of service as a volunteer firefighter for South Schenectady Fire Department District 6.
Joe is survived by his wife of 36 years Joanna, step-son Thomas O'Brien, daughters Amanda (Dan) Drouin, and Samantha Costello, and son Anthony (Julia) Costello. He is also survived by his brother Jeffrey (Sally) Costello of North Carolina.
He will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. We give a special thank you to his doctors and Fresenius Dialysis Center (of Niskayuna), and his very close brotherly friends Art (Ellen) Bufé, and Kirk (Linda) Willoughby.
Calling hours are scheduled for Monday, February 27th, 2023 from 4-7 pm. Please no flowers at this time.
