ALBANY – Joseph DeLuca, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at the Albany Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.
Joe was born on September 6, 1926 in Montesarchio, Italy and was the son of the late, Pasquale and Maria Grazia (Tangredi) DeLuca.
Joe worked as a general mechanic at the Office of Children and Family Services in Albany. Prior to working for the state, he was a general contractor building homes in the local area for over 40 years. He enjoyed horse racing, casino gambling and playing cards. He once owned a race horse named "Tailsyoulose".
Joe is survived by his son, Eugene (Peggy) DeLuca of Kissimmee, FL; his daughter, Mary Grace (David) Sullivan of Loudonville; his grandchildren, Joseph and Mark DeLuca and William Sullivan; his brother, Armando (Juanita) DeLuca of Albany; his sisters, Rosa (John) Tirino of Colonie and Mafalda (Salvatore) Fazio of Albany; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Damiano) DeLuca, a brother, Salvatore DeLuca and two sisters, Yolanda Bernadi and Emelia Russo.
Calling hours will be at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Church 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross - 2005 Hurricane Season Relief, P.O. Box 97089, Washington, DC 20090-7089 in memory of Joseph DeLuca.
