Joseph "J.D." Donato, 84, of Normanskill Rd. passed away Sunday September 20, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Rosaria (Bagnato) Donato. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Oddy) Donato; daughter Joanne (Eric) Andersen: sons James (Beverly) Donato, Vincent (Barbara) Donato and John (Marie) Donato; grandchildren Anthony Donato, Christopher Russell, Destiny Allen, Joseph Donato, Caroline and Mark Donato; brother Nazarene "Zeke" Donato; sister Mary (Donato) Tucker; 6 great grandchildren and countless friends. J.D. was predeceased by his son Anthony N. Donato, grandson Jason Ahrens, 3 brothers and two sisters.
"Pop" was a lifelong resident of New Scotland, a 45 year member of New Salem Volunteer Fire Department, an avid fisherman and loved to bowl. He helped many, either with his stellar plumbing service or simply as a friend and mentor. His sense of humor and goodwill will be missed but never forgotten.
The funeral service will be held Thursday 11:30AM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Calling hours are Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Guilderland Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wildwood Foundation, 2995 C, Curry Rd. Ext., Schenectady, NY 12303 in J.D.'s name.
