Clifton Park~
Joseph P. Dulin, Sr., 98, of Clifton Park, formerly of Colonie, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Joe was the son of the late Joseph J. and Ann (Donnelly) Dulin. He was the devoted husband to the late Mary Carol Keane Dulin. They were married 57 years, together 62.
Born in Albany, Joe spent his early years in foster homes and orphanages with his sister Nance. When he was preteen, Joe was taken out of the orphanage by his aunts Maude, Georgiana "George" and Nellie. His brother Morris helped support and care for his brother, sister and aunts. Through his aunt George, Joe was introduced to the love of his life "Carol." Joe felt this major turning point was when his life really began...
Joe attended St. Mary's Historic Church. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy, where he received the Distinguished Cadet Award and the Honor Cadet Award. Joe received his Bachelor's Degree from Siena College in 1941 and is the last surviving member of that first graduating class. At Siena, he received an Honorable Mention for Scholastic Affairs. Joe also did post-graduate studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cornell. He was also a proud of earning his pilot's license while at Siena College.
During World War II, Mr. Dulin helped the war effort by working in the War Department in metallurgy. Joe was also a volunteer pilot for the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He was a pharmaceutical chemist for Winthrop & Sterling Laboratories in Rensselaer for 38 years until his retirement in 1981 as Assistant Director of Control. Following retirement from Winthrop & Sterling, Joe went to work at the Town of Colonie Golf Course as a starter/ranger for 28 years.
Joe was a Cubmaster and Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, he received many awards, including the St. George Award (the highest scouting award given by the Roman Catholic Church) and the top BSA award, the Silver Beaver. He helped design and build the health fairs and flu shot clinics, and was a teacher's aide for reading at Roessleville Elementary School. Past president of Siena Alumni Association, Joe is a member of R.S.V.P. He volunteered for the Albany Convention Bureau as an ambassador at the Albany International Airport. Joe served in many capacities at the former Our Lady of Mercy Church, serving as an usher, lector and Eucharistic minister. Since the merger of Our Lady of Mercy and St. Francis, Joe became a communicant of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Loudonville.
Joe was the patriarch of a very close Irish family, he enjoyed spending time with them all.
Joseph is survived by his children; Joseph P. Dulin, Jr. and daughter-in-law Pam, Thomas N. Dulin, and Judith E. Dulin-McDade, his grandchildren; Danielle Dulin-Burris (Terry), Bridgett Dulin-Jones (Les), Danielle Lucarelli (Dan), Amanda Vennard (Brian), Thomas Boshea (Jenn) Chelsea Dulin-Francis (Shawn) and great-grandchildren; J.D., Kenzie, Erica and Alex Jones, Soleil, Gemma and Jolie Lucarelli, Micah, Wyatt and Juliette Vennard, Kendall Boshea and Kellan Francis. Also survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Shea, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe had a special relationship with his nieces Eileen Dulin-Richardson and AnnMarie Hislop, for which he was grateful.
Joe was predeceased by his brothers James and Morris, and sisters Nance and Mary. Also predeceased by his brother-in-law Joseph (Bud) Keane, and sisters-in-law; Virginia McTague, Doris Derry and Margaret McEnaney.
The Family would like to thank Lisa and Danielle for their kindness to our father. Also a special thanks to Trisha and Molly for the special joy they brought to our Dad each day.
A funeral service will be held Monday August 28, 2017 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr, Loudonville, where the mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow the service in the Mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, on Sunday August 27, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
