TROY – Joseph F. Gilliam, Jr., 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home after a long battle of illness.
Jack was born in Albany and was the son of the late Joseph and Eula Mae Gilliam. He was married to the late, Lola Alice Gilliam and was the brother of the late Shirley Smith and Lawrence Gilliam.
Jack worked as a service technician for Ford Motor Company in Troy for over 20 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Fifth Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church in Troy, a Master Mason of the Prince Hall Lodge #25, an honorary member of the Mt. Moriah Chapter # 75 O.E.S. P.H.A., and member of the American Legion Post #237 and the Knights of Columbus Council #176. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1962.
He leave behind two sisters, Mary Jane Wright of East Orange, NJ and Ruby (Theodore) Berry of Corning, NY; three brothers, Benjamin (Barbara) Gilliam of Eagan, MN, Gordon Gilliam and Richard (Marsha) Gilliam all of Albany. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family extends a special thanks to his cousin, Irene and the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for their devout care for Jack.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
