Altamont- Joseph G. Frenzel, 94, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2017 at the Teresian House in Albany. Born on August 11, 1922 in Albany, NY, Joseph was the son of the late, Joseph E. and Theresa (Gipp) Frenzel. He served his country honorably and faithfully in the United States Army. During World War II, Joseph served with Gen. Patton during the Battle of the Bulge with 731st Field Artillery, Btry A, earning a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He was also a D-Day survivor and fought through Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Germany. After returning from the service, Joseph married the love of his life Shirley Klopfer. Joseph worked as an electrician for New York Central Railroad at the West Albany Shop and Walter Motor Company. He was later a lab tech for Sterling Winthrop. Joseph was an avid baseball fan, rooting for the New York Yankees. He enjoyed watching Nascar and wrestling. Joseph was a life member of the Fuller Road Fire Department. He was also a member of the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes 1944-1945, Hudson Valley Chapter 49. Joseph had a great love for his great-grandsons and always held an interest in their activities.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley; his grandchildren: Jason (Cynthia) Slutsky and Megan (Eric) Padelford; his great-grandsons: Adam Boucher, Caden Padelford, Rylan Padelford, Jonah Slutsky, Sawyer Padelford and Reid Slutsky. Joseph is also survived by his nieces Rebecca (George) Waldenmaier and Lisa Chainyk; his special neighbors Phil and Gerry; his close friend Al Gaige and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his cherished and loved daughter, Linda (Frenzel) Slutsky; his sister Tressa Gesek; his brother-in-law Stanley Gesek.
Joseph's family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and aides of the CCU at St. Peter's Hospital for their compassionate and loving care.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, June 14 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 15 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
