Joseph J. Halligan

Albany - Joseph James Halligan passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017, at the Schuyler Ridge Care Center in Clifton Park, NY. Joe was born in Albany, NY, on September 1, 1951. He was predeceased by his parents John Philip and Katherine McLaughlin Halligan. Joe was the fifth of six children. His beloved younger brother Thomas died in a plane crash in 1976. He is survived by John (Jack) Philip Halligan Jr. and his wife Dolores of Clifton Park NY, Mary Halligan Shann PhD, of Weston, MA, Gregory Michael Halligan of Worcester MA and Anne Halligan Petrazzolo and her husband Edwin of Rochester NY. Joe was predeceased by his nephew Derek Shann and is survived by his nephews John, Stephen and Scott Halligan, Cdr. Ryan Shann USN SEAL, Michael, Brendan, Christopher and Greg Halligan, Mark and Thomas Petrazzolo and his niece Elizabeth Petrazzolo.

Joe spent his entire life in Albany. He graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1973. After high school, Joe worked for the New York State Office of General Services for 42 years. He was assigned to the concourse level of the Empire State Plaza. Joe took pride in his job and well respected by his coworkers.

Services for Joe will be on Wednesday, January 3 at the Church of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany NY. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be held at a later date in the Halligan family plot in Saint Agnes Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe's memory to a charity of your choice.
